About the Book

London, 1851

After attending a pantomime at Drury Lane Theatre, Charles Dickens witnesses a man apparently bundling a woman into a waiting cab.

He glimpses a magic robe and a made-up face, and something about the man reminds him of a disturbing scene from his youth, but he is not confident of the connection.

But when an abandoned trunk containing a blood-stained magician’s cloak is reported to his good friend Superintendent Sam Jones, Dickens starts to believe there could be more to what he saw.

And when a young woman connected to the Drury Lane Theatre is reported missing, Dickens and Jones start to piece the puzzle together.

But with the discovery of a dead body, the stakes are quickly raised, and the pair must find the killer before any more lives are put in danger.

What connects this crime to Dickens’ childhood memories? Is someone targeting the theatre?

And can Dickens stop them before it’s too late…?
