Paul lives in a small town in the northern Home Counties. Having worked in universities and run his own business in the past, his time is now split between writing, teaching creative writing, and serving on the board of an educational trust.
Paul writes historical fiction. He inherited his love of history and historical fiction from his mother, who was an avid member of the Richard III Society. The William Constable series of historical thrillers includes real characters and events in late sixteenth-century England. He has also written a novel set at the Paris Peace Conference at the end of World War I.
Most of his writing takes place in a shed at the bottom of his garden, where he can avoid the distractions of dogs, grandchildren, and DIY projects. Research for historical fiction usually takes longer than the writing, but it can also be fun, especially when visiting sites of historic interest.
In addition to teaching creative writing at an adult education college, Paul organises a couple of writers’ support groups.
