We are delighted to announce that we have signed the twelfth book in the Charles Holborne Legal Thrillers series by Simon Michael: gritty, hard-boiled mysteries set in 1960s London and featuring maverick barrister Charles Holborne.
Here, Simon tells us what to expect from the latest instalment:
“Book twelve sees a return to the London courts for Charles Holborne. In many ways this case is the most shocking of those I have fictionalised, and it happened recently to some of my own clients. It involves the prosecution of an eminent, well-respected surgeon who misuses his bedside manner in order to play God with the lives of his patients, maiming — and in some cases — killing them.
“Despite all the dangers to which Charles was exposed in the earlier books in the series, from the Kray twins and other gangsters, in many ways he is more at risk in this book than in any other. The stakes get higher and higher until the point where everything he has — his practice, his reputation and his marriage — are on the line. It resolves some long-standing story and character arcs with which existing fans will be very familiar.
“My relationship with Sapere Books has lasted eleven books and over a decade. If this is to be the last Charles Holborne adventure — at least for a while — it is only fitting that Sapere Books should be the team to publish it.”
The Charles Holborne Legal Thrillers series is available from Amazon now.

Congratulations to Simon Michael, whose absorbing courtroom drama, The Fall Guy, is out now!
The Fall Guy is the tenth book in the Charles Holborne Legal Thrillers series.
The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who … Tin Pan Alley is the heart of London’s music scene.
It is also the dark heart of a ruthless business tainted by sex, drugs and corruption.
When a young fan is found dead from a heroin overdose at an American rock star’s accommodation and the band’s manager is charged with her murder, Charles Holborne, barrister, must defend him.
But Holborne is getting married in two weeks, and for some reason DS Sean Sloane, his best man, refuses to speak to him.
Has Sloane been turned? What has a select group of corrupt Met officers known as ‘the Team’ to do with the case?
And is Holborne’s client the unscrupulous venal businessman he is portrayed or is he, perhaps, The Fall Guy?
Set in 1960s London, Simon Michael’s Charles Holborne Legal Thrillers follow a barrister with a tough past as he becomes embroiled in dangerous cases.
The first nine books in the series are already published, and we are delighted to announce that we have now signed up the tenth instalment.
In Simon’s words:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be publishing my tenth Charles Holborne legal thriller with Sapere Books! When my previous publisher went bust four books into the series I feared my writing career had hit another brick wall, but Sapere were absolutely brilliant, offering to republish the first four books and continue with the series. Five years later, book 10 is taking shape. Regular readers will be aware that having worked throughout the 1960s, in Nothing But The Truth Charles’s nemeses, the Kray twins, were finally outwitted. Nonetheless, there are still plenty of evil men and topical social issues for Charles to confront. Thank you, Sapere!”
Congratulations to Simon Michael, whose gripping thriller, The Final Shot, is published today!
The Final Shot is the seventh crime novel in the Charles Holborne Legal Thrillers — gritty, hard-boiled mysteries set in 1960s London.
As England eagerly anticipates the World Cup Final, barrister Charles Holborne is briefed in another high-profile case.
Once a sadistic gangster, Reverend Stanley Sharpe found God while incarcerated and has run his own parish for a number of years since being released. But when he is convicted of murdering Frank Marshall, right-hand man to the Kray twins, he is sent back to prison for life.
Convinced that he is innocent, Reverend Sharpe’s wife begs Charles to apply to the Court of Appeal to reopen the case.
With his own question marks over whether Frank Marshall is really dead, Charles agrees to take the brief on.
But with the media now casting doubt over Sharpe’s redemption, Charles knows he is bound for failure unless he can find further evidence.
And to do so he must once again cross the most dangerous men in London…
