As an author of literary-leaning historical fiction based on French ancestors, Jules’ mantra is to impart hopeful human stories that enlighten, entertain, and inspire positive change.
Influenced by a love of history and a background in freelance travel writing, she uses research trips to hear her characters’ voices and to embody settings and culture that would have impacted their lives. Creating a sense of place in her writing with sights, sounds, and smells connects readers to both the history and her characters’ experiences. Jules brings their stories to life by blending and distilling these captivating settings with a dose of magic, myth, and romance.
With two award-winning novels on a seventeenth-century French Huguenot, Jules is currently working with Sapere on a series based on Capetian royal ancestors, beginning with the first novel ever written on Adélaïde de Maurienne, Queen Consort of King Louis VI.
Jules holds a B.A. from Indiana University and has trained under writing geniuses Libbie Hawker/Olivia Hawker and Roz Morris. She is a member of France’s Splendid Centuries authors’ collaborative, a board member of the Historical Novel Society of Southern California, and was a presenter for the Historical Novel Society 2024 Conference. She lives primarily in Ojai, California with time spent around the U.S. and Europe gathering a rich repository of historical research in a continued search for authenticity.
