Jonathan Eyers is the author and co-author of several books of non-fiction on maritime subjects, including Don’t Shoot the Albatross: Nautical Myths and Superstitions (A&C Black, 2011), Final Voyage: The World’s Worst Maritime Disasters (Bloomsbury, 2013) and Fish & Ships: A Nautical Miscellany (National Maritime Museum, 2023). He is also the author of a children’s novel about the Great Fire of London, The Thieves of Pudding Lane (Bloomsbury, 2014).

His forthcoming Newt Beresford series chronicling the dangerous career of a young English officer from midshipman to captain in the years spanning the War of Independence and the French Revolutionary Wars, are his first novels for adults.

He has worked within the publishing industry for many years, editing everything from practical guides about paddleboarding to bestselling thrillers. He also works directly with writers requiring mentoring, at whatever stage of their career they are.

Jonathan grew up on the Essex coast, but it was actually books and films like Treasure Island, Jaws and The Poseidon Adventure that really sparked his imagination when it came to all things nautical. He lives in London with his wife Kristen.
