Clare Hawkins was born and brought up in Scotland, to an Irish father and an English mother, and now lives in Essex. A graduate of the universities of Edinburgh and Sheffield, she worked in education for nearly forty years and is still involved in the field, as a volunteer adult education tutor and guidance adviser.
After relinquishing one of her part-time teaching jobs, Clare found the time to embark on the experiment of writing a historical novel and soon became hooked. An excellent mentoring programme and encouragement from a group of writer friends led to the completion of several novels, some recognition in competitions and three publications.
Her interest in history is wide-ranging in terms of periods, and inspiration comes from many sources: stories of the lives of ancient relatives, visits to historic sites, striking landscapes and buildings, reading of fiction and non-fiction. She loves creating stories around the lives of ordinary people whose experiences and adventures are affected by wider social and political contexts.
Working with Sapere Books has given Clare an exciting way of continuing her enjoyable compulsion and her hopes of producing engaging and interesting entertainment for readers.
