We are thrilled to announce that we have signed up The Manner of Men series by John McKay, featuring a band of soldiers in the Parachute Regiment during the Second World War.

Here, John tells us more about the series:

“The Manner of Men series follows Lieutenant Sean Harris and the men of his small British airborne pathfinder unit, through some of the most intense fighting of the Second World War. The books are very much about the men themselves; the friendships they form, the loyalty they show to one another, and the extraordinary pressures placed upon ordinary men in extraordinary circumstances.

“The series begins with D-Day and continues through Arnhem, the Battle of the Bulge and into the later stages of the war, including Operation Varsity. Although the stories and characters are fictional, I try to anchor them firmly in the reality of the time. The battles, locations and circumstances are researched as carefully as possible, while the focus remains on the characters and the decisions they have to make when things go badly wrong. There is plenty of action, but at its heart the series is about camaraderie, sacrifice, leadership and the bonds that develop between men who know they have to rely upon each other to survive.

“I chose to work with Sapere because they truly look after their authors. I felt there was a real understanding of what I am trying to achieve with The Manner of Men series. I wanted the books to be treated as a continuing body of work rather than simply as individual titles, although each of the books can be read as standalones. I was impressed by Sapere’s approach and enthusiasm and I’m looking forward to working with the team and seeing what we can achieve together.”
